Here I go again

I didn’t plan 2009’s cleanse very well.  I had some fresh avocados that I wanted to eat today, so like a glutton I ate avos with breakfast and lunch and then started drinking the lemonade in the late afternoon.

For anyone who does not know what I’m talking about, I am doing the Master Cleanse.  It is a fast, sort of, where I eat no food but get to drink all the lemonade I want.  I take in only the special lemonade, water, herbal tea, and VeMMAVeMMA is my addition and is not part of the regular Master Cleanse.  Here is the lemonade recipe so you can join me:

20 ounces spring water
¼ cup grade B maple syrup
¼ cup freshly squeezed lemon (about 1 lemon)
¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper

Good things to know…  You must use only grade B maple syrup.  There is no substitution for this.  You may substitute limes for lemons.  Where I live, free lemons are fairly easy to acquire.  If I have to purchase fruit at the store, normally limes are cheaper.  Use whichever you like.

This recipe using equal parts lemon juice and maple syrup is for those who want their weight to stay about the same or possibly lose a little.  If you do not want to lose weight, add more syrup.  If you do want to lose weight, use less syrup.  Simple.  Remember, it is a cleanse and detox.  Losing weight is just an added benefit if that’s what you want to do.

I know it sounds a little strange to put cayenne pepper in lemonade, but it works for me.  I love it and am thrilled to be doing the master cleanse again this year.  And I hope you’ll do it with me and post your thoughts and results.

Why would anyone do the Master Cleanse?

Stanley Burroughs believed that the Master Cleanse would eliminate every kind of disease.  I don’t know about that.  All I know is that I feel great while following the cleanse and that the feeling continues long after I start eating solid food again.

Everyone asks why.  Isn’t feeling good enough of a reason?  Aparently not, since the fast food market is bigger than ever and I know that stuff doesn’t make anyone feel good.  So why does it make me feel so good?  Could be that my colon likes going on vacation.  Could be that an alkaline body vs. acid body really does make a difference just like they say.  Could be that the simplicity of the fast creates a good vibration.

The original text by Stanley Burroughs claims all sorts of miraculous healings.  I don’t have any disease that I know of, but I’m aware that we all carry around a big heaping helping of opportunistic bugs, cancers, and disorders.  If this helps suppress them, then I’m all for that.

2009 – New Year, time to cleanse

It is Feb 1st, and for the last couple of years I’ve been doing my Master Cleanse in January.  This year I did not have access to a large supply of free lemons until today when I found not one, but two sources with a promise of a third!  I’m glad I was forced to wait, though, because I had two wonderful eating events to attend this weekend, an anniversary party last night and a super bowl party today.

I start the master cleanse tomorrow.

Coming out of the Master Cleanse – a faster’s dilemma

Life is so easy during the cleanse. No meal decisions to make. No hunger because I always have the lemonade with me. No fatigue. Better sleep. During the cleanse I have an overall feeling of great health. So it is always with sadness that I leave the cleanse and begin the return to solid food. I squeezed up a bunch of oranges this morning so I could take the diluted juice with me to work. I tastes thin and puny compared to the rich, tasty, filling lemon-syrup-cayenne juice drink. It is a necessary step to get me to the fabulous vegetable soup that I can eat tomorrow.

Master Cleanse Lemonade Fast – 2008

I’m doing it again, the Master Cleanse, that is.  I’m on day 3 already, feeling great, and I’m enjoying it this time from the very beginning.  No fear.  I slept really well last night, too.

Everyone asks why I do this.  The short answer is because I really enjoy it.  I love food as much as anyone and I know that I’ll appreciate and enjoy it even more after this cleanse.  Also, why not do it?  As many others, I over indulged this recent holiday season going to party after party.  Now it’s January, a more serious time of the year, lemons are free and plentiful, I need to establish a clean break, change of focus, and it helps me concentrate on what I really want to accomplish this year.  It’s a great way to begin the year.  And I can check off one new year’s resolution – done!

Master Cleanse Lemonade Fast – Holidays 2007

I plan to start a proper fast in January again, this time with a few friends in tow.  Why not join us?

In the meantime, I’ve been using the Master Cleanse Lemonade Fast between parties just to keep some sanity and perspective this season.  The parties have been 2 – 3 days apart and so I fast for 1-2 days at a time.  It rids my mind of the feelings of gluttony I often have this time of year.  I don’t think I’m overeating on volume of food, but party food tends to be things I don’t usually eat, either due to the richness or dairyness (I know this isn’t a real word.)  So, fasting off and on during the holidays may sound odd, but it is helping me out.   I feel good, have lots of energy, and am free of food guilt.

Happy holidays to all!

Master Cleanse Lemonade Fast – March mini

I planned another mini round of the fast for this week between a trip to Las Vegas and my birthday. Today will be my last day of four. I’ve squeezed up all the lemons, limes, and drained the organic, grade B maple syrup for today’s batches to take to work. I must go back to regular eating after today. I’ve had to buy lemons and limes this time which is odd for me living here in AZ. Normally, folks are just pushing fruit on people to get rid of it. It seems like such a waste to throw it away. Alas, the hard freeze in January destroyed much of the urban harvest. Which is inconvenient for the lemonade faster, but not prohibitively expensive. This fast is still affordable. The real problem is that the fruit in the stores is so small compared to what I’m used to sqeezing. I first did this fast in January with locally grown fruit from friends. One lemon would make a meal. Now I’m squeezing 3 times as many. The limes are seedless, but have so much pulp that it is hard to get the juice out of them. Squeezing the lemons is messy due to the number of seeds. This morning I made my drink with a mix of both.

Master Cleanse Lemonade Fast – another experience

A friend and I volunteered at a theatre performance last night. She’d started the fast that morning, and it was obvious that she was not feeling well. She’d thrown up several times earlier and left the show after intermission. She said she had tried the fast once before with the same outcome. I doubt she’ll be giving the fast a third try.

The Secret

Have you seen “The Secret”? This amazing film has changed many lives. I first saw it earlier this month, then watched both Oprah shows about it. Watched the film again. Watched Oprah again. And will do so again and again. Its message is so powerful that I don’t want to miss any part of it. And I want to share it with you. Enjoy!

Master Cleanse Lemonade Fast – follow up

I have nothing but good things to say about my experience with the Master Cleanse Lemonade Fast. This is something I will do at least annually if not more often. I did a mini-fast last week — just two days — to see if benefits can be acheived in a short amount of time. Again, I felt really good. I plan to do a mini-fast monthly.

Dr. Barnet Meltzer, a leading wellness physician, has written about fasting for health. I had wanted to do it after reading his book, but didn’t really know how until I was introduced to the Master Cleanse by a friend. Dr. Meltzer’s motto is: “Make time for wellness, or illness will make time for you.”

Dr. Meltzer’s site is here: http://www.maketimeforwellness.com/
